An Homage to TV Badassery

A friend of mine was talking to me about some of his favorite TV moments the other day and it got me thinking about my own. There are many shows I love, watch and share with people for many different reasons. I enjoy comedies (Community, Louie, 30 Rock), dramas (Mad Men, The Wire, Deadwood) and everything in between (Carnivale, Breaking Bad, Dexter). But there’s one thing about shows that resonate with me on a deeper level than most elements and that is a character who defies the rules, looks his enemy in the eye and then kicks him in the balls without blinking. So here for you now are just some of my favorite moments in TV badassery.

Thoughts on A Game of Thrones (sometimes known as A Song of Ice and Fire)

Let’s face it, hardcore George R. R. Martin fans (as well as the man himself) may secretly long in their heart of hearts for the world to refer to the series as A Song of Ice and Fire and may relish those rare opportunities to put on their best comic book guy voices when they hear someone refer to it as the ‘Game of Thrones’ series/books in order to correct them with an “ *ahem* actually Game of Thrones is merely the first book. The series to which you refer is known as A Song of Ice and Fire, tee hee!” However, that will never happen. Marketing wizards put the nail in that coffin over a decade ago with the release of the first Game of Thrones merchandise.

I think the Starks got the only cool family motto. The Lannister words sound more like something you might hear at a gay-stereotype rally. EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm talking about "hear me roar" and not "A Lannister always pays his debts." 😀
